Bath Bomb Embeds for Spin and Fizz
Wondering how to make a bath bomb embeds so that your bath bombs will spin and fizz? It’s so easy, you won’t believe it. The key is to make what’s called a “Bath Bomb Embed.” An embed is like a mini-bath bomb that goes in the center of the bath bomb mold.
An embed will give your bath bomb an extra boost of excitement and fizz. And here’s the trick: Place your embed off-center to make your bath bomb spin!

How to Make a Bath Bomb Embed
So this is the important thing about making embeds: You need equal parts baking soda and citric acid. (This is a different ratio than you’ll find in a bath bomb recipe where it’s usually 2 parts baking soda to 1 part citric acid.) You also need a spray bottle full of witch hazel.
You might also want to add colorant and/or glitter to your embed.
While no one will see the embed, if you add color it will change the color of the water slightly. I say slightly, because embeds are small relative to the size of a bath bomb. Also if you add glitter, the embed fizzes so much that it will disperse the glitter across the surface of the bathwater.
Ingredients
- Citric acid
- Baking soda
- Colorant (optional)
- Glitter (optional)
Supplies
- Rubber gloves
- Mixing bowl
- Sieve
- Spray bottle (for witch hazel)
- Mold for embeds – You can use almost any kind of mini-mold. You can use a small ice cube tray. You can also use a soft silicone mold from the candy aisle of the craft store.
- Cookie sheet or cutting board
Instructions
- Put on rubber gloves.
- Sift citric acid and baking soda into mixing bowl. Also sift colorant if using.
- Mix well with your hands. Add glitter if using and mix.
- Spray dry mixture 1-2 times with witch hazel. Rub between open palms to mix well. Test consistency to see if the mixture can keep its shape. To do this, squeeze a handful of mixture in your fist. Does it form a ball? If not, spray 1-2 times again, mix and retest. Repeat until mixture is the right consistency. You want to go slowly so you don’t get the mixture wetter than necessary.
- Fill your mini-mold with the mixture. Press down hard on each mold. If using a hard plastic ice cube tray, once the cavities are full, tip the ice cube tray over onto a cookie sheet or cutting board where embeds can dry. If using a flexible silicone mini-mold, let embeds dry inside of mold. Set aside embeds to dry for 3 hours.
- You can always cut your embeds in half when using inside smaller bath bombs.
